I meet a problem of the font. I'm a Chinese user, when I open a txt file with Chinese characters and English characters,if the file begin with English characters or numbers, Win32Pad will show them with the Courier New fonts which I have set.But after some English characters, there have some Chinese characters, Win32Pad will show them with the Simsun font which I never set. And the English characters after the Chinese characters will show with the Simsun font.

I find that when Win32Pad meet the Chinese characters, it will show them with the system default font for Chinese characters.
I think this is a bug of Win32Pad.

Hey, I'm also Chinese user of Win32pad.
I just did some tests in the situation you describled, and have a few words for this "bug".

Actually, if you set the font of Win32pad to Chinese font, everything is OK.

But if set to English fonts such as "Courier New":
Case 1 - When editing
1.1 - The new letters will be displayed in the system default font.
1.2 - The new Chinese characters will be in font Simsun.
Case 2 - Reopen Win32pad after previous change
2.1 - The letters before the fist Chinese character will be the system default font.
2.1 - The new letters and Chinese characters are in the same situation with Case 1.

Wait gena to fix it.

In addition, I hope win32pad could provide the feature to change the color of a web link.
The default one is really hard to read if the bg color is black...

Bad Copy and Paste bug in v1.5.10.4 with IE Address Bar

When I copy a URL from the Address bar of IE6, I cannot paste it into win32pad v1.5.10.4.  Only happens on IE6 (in Win98SE).  It happens with Context menu, with Hotkey Ctrl-C and with Edit/Copy.  It outputs NOTHING in the paste, as if the clipboard is empty, but it pastes fine into v1.5.10.1 and earlier.

There is no problem at all when I copy the URL from FireFox address bar.  And there is no problem when I copy links from within a webpage in IE6 and paste them into win32pad v1.5.10.4.

Using IE6 (in Win98SE)
Riched.dll 4.00.834.839
riched20.dll 5.30.23.1200
Riched32.dll 4.00.834.839

This is going to be a little tricky as I don't have access to Win98SE anymore and it works fine on XP. I will try to see if I can somehow get my hands on Win98SE and figure it out.

Problem launching links in Win98SE

I found another problem on Win98SE, even with v1.5.10.1.  There is a problem launching links.  They get highlighted, but hang the system when I double click.  The last stable version on Win98SE of Win32pad is v1.5.9.1.

Thanks for a great program.  If you can't get access to a Win98 box to debug, you might want to post something on the download page.

Read-Only files need Save As dialog

When trying to Save a file which is marked as Read Only, you get an Access Denied error (in Win XP).  But in Win32Pad, you get no prompt of a Save As dialog box.  Notepad does offer such a prompt when trying to save a Read Only file.

You could always hit the [File Properties] Button from the taskbar.
There you can remove the Read/Only flag and then you can save your changes.
You don't even have to switch to another window for this.

See, the "Save As..." dialog is not really necessary for this type of operation.
It would be nice though, wouldn't it?

I am sorely missing the configurable text cursor -- the thin line that it is right now is just unbearable for people with sight problems. Win32Pad just totally ignores the text cursor settings in XP control panel keyboard options.

Thank you for the tip. First time I hear of this. Win32Pad uses richedit control which for the most part should handle most if not all of those issues.

Also your setup is probably a bit different from mine, since I only see blink rate setting and keyboard repeat rates in my keyboard options. Can you elaborate a bit on your setup or anything I could be missing from mine?

Thank you,

Hello!

I am a new forum member here...but, I have been using Win32Pad for several years!!!  A wonderful tool - and, THANK you for your effort in coding it.

I do have a longstanding need though:  We do A LOT of text file editing/coding/scripting.  Of course this involves editing across different versions, modules, procedures, etc.  A tabbed interface would be a tremendous asset to Win32Pad.  It would keep the desktop and taskbar from become overloaded with windows and program buttons.  We frequently encounter a very busy (some would say cluttered  Tongue ) desktop with a blizzard of windows.....having a tabbed interface would really make your program much more "compact" so to speak - in that all of the files being edited/used would be confined to that one window.  Obviously, a user option switch to turn on & off the tabbed interface would be desired from a control/choice perspective.

Again - THANKS !!!
