Here are a couple of tips. Some of them are pretty simple and chances are that people know them. I know I didn't and I found them really useful.

Tip #1: Starting Firefox with the set of tabs/windows that you had opened when you closed

  • Select "Tools"->"Options" menu.
  • In the "Main" tab find "Startup" group.
  • Select "Show my windows and tabs from the last time" in the drop down
  • press Ok.

This tip I got from MrTech (http://www.mrtech.com). Apparently this feature got added during some 2.x release and I somehow missed it.

Tip #2: Disabling the annoying desktop cleanup wizard.
  • Right click a blank space on the desktop and select Properties, or select Display from Control Panel. Either of these opens the Display Properties dialog box.
  • Click the Desktop tab.
  • Click the Customize Desktop button.
  • Clear the check box labeled Run Desktop Cleanup Wizard Every 60 Days.
  • Click OK and then OK again to close the dialog boxes.

This tip comes to us from  Deb Shinder, MVP of Sunbelt (http://sunbeltblog.blogspot.com/)
