Title: Default Open Files of Type
Post by: stovertl1 on May 10, 2008, 06:15:16 pm
Is there any way to change the default open files of type to "All Files".  I find myself always needing to change the open files of type to this selection.

Hello Win32-Padders!

Regarding «to change the default open files of type to "All Files"»

I took a look in the INI file (which is best located where the EXE is), and I don't see a way to remedy the default OPEN FILES.  The same minor annoyance applies, by the way, to SAVE AS.

In practice, however, there is an on-the-fly workaround which quickly goes into muscle-memory:

For SAVE AS, the cursor lands in the slot «File Name» and is (of course) highlighted in deep blue.  For right now, don't type anything into this slot. Instead, hit the TAB key once.  Which brings you to the slot below.

Press right-arrow, and then tap END key.  This sequence of keys lands the cursor on the desired «All Files.»

Now hold down the SHIFT key and tap TAB (then let go of SHIFT).  This sequence brings you back to «File Name.»

NOW when you type in the file-name you want AND the extension you want, everything works fine.

I like to think that Win32Pad's developers put the ALL FILES at the END on purpose.  But in any case, we're lucky it's there.

Practice this keyboard routine a few times on a few dummy files.  See for yourself how quickly it goes into muscle memory.

Call it a muscle memory macro.

mit herzlichem Gruß,

Roger
