Title: Catching up on latest news and insights.
Post by: Gena01 on November 10, 2007, 04:30:44 pm
This actually started as a question by my boss asking me what I do to keep up to date as to what's going on on the web and in different communities that are related to technologies that I am using. Currently I am trying to do as much as I can to read most of the interesting stuff that's available for FREE on the web through links and blog entries. I also love downloading slides that were presented at various talks and conferences. Lots of presenters upload their slides and have links available for download. I find it a great way to educate myself.

Another great resource is blog aggregators. Some use RSS software and they subscribe to different blogs and then spend time reading the RSS feeds. Another alternative is that some people have setup sites that do that for you. So you can click on the interesting links and even go back to previous or older entries. There's a lot of these available for many different technologies and communities.

I will list some of these that I personally try to read and follow:
  • Mozilla - http://feedhouse.mozillazine.org/ is probably the first of these that I started reading and following.
  • PHP - http://planet-php.org/ and http://www.phpdeveloper.org/ are the ones I tend to read.
Note: I also want to thank enygma from #phpc who runs phpdeveloper for picking up my last blog entry.
  • MySQL - http://www.planetmysql.org/
  • Oracle - http://www.orana.info/ is the one I am trying to stay on top of.

P.S. I know that there's probably a lot of other websites that do RSS feed aggregations. These are the ones that I currently have bookmarked. I will keep my eyes open to other great resources of information. I will also try to post links to slides and videos from different conferences and talks as I find them.
