What OS?
Notepad under XP is more capable then notepad under Win98.

Advantages over notepad:

"Win32Pad - Features"
http://www.gena01.com/win32pad/features.shtml

Filesize is limited to the available memory. (not 64k)
Recent Files list.
Auto-indent & Tab Size (2..Cool support.
Standard toolbar and statusbar. (You can show/hide each)
Supports WIN (default) and UNIX file formats (read/write).
Line Numbers.
File change notification.
"Smart" Home.
Goto Line # (Under Search Menu)
Revert feature. (Re-read the file from disk)
Shows current location, # of lines and editing mode (Insert/Overwrite).
Minimize Win32Pad to the System Tray.
File Properties.

Notepad advantage:

Can handle unicode format files.

Juat what i wonder when my site is done how must i upload to the server through FTP? is so which one is the best for a beginner, my site is a small one about 7 pages with some pictures.

Another point or doubt is how must i fit my keywords. if someone knows a good tutorial to do that in win32 could please let me know.

Hi Maria,

With win32pad you create any text file you want, but it will be saved in standard ASCII format.

This means you can only use the characters that are available in English and most European languages.
(I will try to keep this explanation as simple as possible). You can not however use characters from languages like Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic, etc.
To do that you would need Unicode (more [disk]space is needed to represent characters in the computer)

The number of (Mega/kilo)Bytes you upload to your server depends on the actual file size of the text files you create. So if your html documents and images (which will use up much more disk space in general) contain 10MB, you must upload 10MB to your server to make it available to people on the internet.

Good luck

Win32pad can do it as well and even on Win9x/ME :<img src="http://www.gena01.com/forum/Smileys/default/wink.gif" alt="Wink" border="0" />:

Of the system notepad alternatives, there are only Metapad && Win32pad.

what a pity, there is no update for metapad for quite a longlong time.

I hope that win32pad can inherit some good features from its counterparts.

For example:
One button to switch between 2 color styles (font and background)    // i think 2 is enough:>
More inerface options (provide the color change for the active line number and the web links)
 Margin width to set
 ...

I wrote a comparison of Win32Pad and Notepad just now:

http://www.bengtl.net/files/Win32Pad-Notepad.html (http://www.bengtl.net/files/Win32Pad-Notepad.html)

I don't know how newbie-friendly it is. It was meant to be comprehensive and short.

Re: bengtl having written a comparison of Win32Pad and Notepad.

Quite excellent, and very good for everybody including of course newbies.

I'm especially happy to see where Win32Pad puts its configuration-file.

I'm having so far no success finding where Metapad puts its config-file.

That is a problem when you want to keep a configuration from one site to the next, namely when working from a portable USB stick.  Please note that if you want to use the cited path for Win32Pad's config-file in a batch file, the path must be inside double-quotes if the path contains spaces.

Sincerely,

Roger
